Hongdo Island is located in the Yellow Sea, 115 km from the southwest coast of Mokpo port, Jeollanam-do, South Korea. It is a place you should visit on your trip to Korea. When the sun sets over the island, the whole area takes on a reddish hue.
Consisting of a steep range of mountains, this island is home to about 710 people. There are 270 varieties of evergreens and 170 species of animals on this island, with an area of about 6.5km. Hongdo Island was designated as a Natural Monument in 1965 and became a part of Dadohae Marine National Park in 1981.
You should take a ferry to get to the island for about 3 hours from Mokpo Ferry Terminal.
