The lighthouse recognizes Hendrick Hamel, a Dutch sailor shipwrecked near Yeosu in 1653 with 35 crewmates; he lived in Korea for 13 years and later wrote a book about his adventures. Located at the end of a short breakwater on the north side of Yeosu harbor. Readily accessible by walking the pier.
